Finding Balance at the Autumn Equinox

Yin, Yang & the Wisdom of Letting Go

The Sacred Pause of the Equinox

Twice a year, the Earth offers us a rare gift: balance. Day and night stand in equal measure, Yin and Yang perfectly poised. The Autumn Equinox is more than a seasonal transition — it is a sacred pause, a mirror reminding us of the harmony we seek within.

In Reiki, this balance is felt as the flow between giving and receiving, action and rest, expansion and stillness. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Autumn belongs to the Metal element, teaching us both to breathe in inspiration (Lungs) and to release what no longer serves (Large Intestine).

Yin and Yang: Equal but Different

Yin and Yang are not opposites, but partners. One cannot exist without the other. The Equinox reminds us to honor both sides of ourselves:

  • Yin (inward, receptive): rest, reflection, forgiveness, breathing in life.

  • Yang (outward, active): clarity, movement, decisions, letting go.

When Yin and Yang fall out of harmony, we may feel scattered, anxious, fatigued, or heavy. The Equinox is a moment to restore equilibrium — a reminder that true strength comes from balance, not extremes.

Balance in Every Season

The Autumn Equinox invites us to release, restore, and realign with harmony.

The Wisdom of the Metal Element

In the Five Elements system, Autumn belongs to Metal.

  • The Lungs teach us to receive — to open space for gratitude, inspiration, and clarity.

  • The Large Intestine teaches us to release — to let go of toxins, grief, and attachments that weigh us down.

Just as trees release their leaves to prepare for winter, we too are invited to clear away what no longer serves so that our energy can flow freely into the new season.

An Equinox Practice You Can Try at Home

  1. Find a Quiet Space. Sit comfortably, place one hand on your chest, and close your eyes.

  2. Breathe Consciously. Inhale through your nose, imagining fresh inspiration flowing in. Exhale slowly, releasing burdens you no longer need.

  3. Reflect in Writing. Journal on the questions: “What am I ready to release? What clarity am I ready to receive?” Write without judgment.

  4. Seal with Intention. Whisper the affirmation:
“I honor the balance of Yin and Yang within me. I release what no longer serves and open to clarity and inspiration.”

This simple practice brings harmony to your breath, your emotions, and your energy field.

Breathe, Release, Renew

The Autumn Equinox reminds us to let go of the old and open space for inspiration.

How My Sessions Support You This Season

The Equinox is nature’s invitation to pause and realign. My Reiki and Five Elements–inspired sessions are designed to:

  • Release stagnant energy — clearing blockages that mirror the Large Intestine’s wisdom.

  • Restore vitality — strengthening Lung Qi for inspiration and flow.

  • Rebalance Yin and Yang — aligning inner stillness with outward clarity.

  • Guide transformation — helping you move forward lighter, clearer, and more centered.

Whether through an Energy Assessment Session, a 4-week Emotional Freedom Program, or a Vitality Reset Session, this is the season to step into balance and prepare for what’s ahead.

The Autumn Equinox reminds us that balance is always possible — in nature, and within ourselves. By pausing, breathing, and letting go, we make space for renewal and inspiration.

Blessings, Maria
